Ground Blind Buying Guide

Why use a ground blind?

Ground blinds are temporary places where hunters set up their spot where they want to hunt. They offer the hunter protection from being seen by the animal, and also from the weather.

Hunting with a ground blind offers a hunter a way to stay on the ground and not be seen by the animal they’re hunting.

what to look for when buying a ground blind?

There are certain characteristics in a ground blind that you want to consider before buying. They are the following:

  • Durability
  • Camo design
  • Price
  • Space
  • Zipper-less or not
  • Portability
  • Sound when inside

Pros

Cons

Banks Outdoor Stump is the best hard case ground blind on the market.

The banks Outdoor Stump is a big, semi-permanent ground blind that any bow hunter would love to have. Amazingly, it comes with skis on the bottom of the blind with a hitch so you can attach it to your truck or ATV and move the blind where you want it. For how big and durable, it’s actually very easy to move around.

With this blind, you have the option for keeping it on the ground or getting the stilts and elevating it into a tower. The material of the blind is made from polyethylene ski construction, and it will last forever. If you’re looking for something that won’t tear, break, or get damaged from the outdoor elements, the Banks Outdoor Stump is a great choice for you.

Banks Outdoors advertises that this blind will comfortably fit 4 adult hunters, although I don’t think that’s the case. You can comfortably fit 2 men with their own space, and you could squeeze 3 guys in there. In my opinion, 4 adult men would be a tough fit.

The stump comes with camo covers that fit right over the windows. What you’re going to love is that when you open the windows, all you have to do is turn a notch on each side and flip the window open. Opening the window is completely silent, so you won’t have to worry about keeping the windows open the whole time. See your target, open the window, and you’re set to shoot!

Banks did a great job, and they have definitely thought of everything that’s needed with their Stump model. For example, this blind comes with hooks to attach at the ceiling of the blind, where you hang your bow. This saves floor space, and gives the hunter easy accessibility to grab your bow at a moment’s notice.

I can’t get enough with all the great features that come standard with this ground blind. The curtains that fit over the window do so by using magnetic corner pieces that are attached to the fabric of the blinds. Think of these blinds like a micro-fiber camping towel. They’re light, thin, and easy to use. They’re as easy to take down as that are to put up- totally silent too!

What Makes This Ground Blind Great

  • Made of polyethylene that lasts a life time- no need for replacements with this model
  • Completely silent to open and close the windows
  • Camo curtains that come to place over windows that you’re not using
  • Ceiling hooks to hang your bow to save floor space
  • Enough space for you and a friend or two to enjoy the outdoor- or just for you to feel like a king hunter
  • Surprisingly easy to move, via hooking the attachment to your truck or ATV and wheeling it where you want

Who’s This Ground Blind Best For?

If you’re an avid hunter, who wants to buy one ground blind and let that be that, buy the Stump 2. This blind has the protection, accessibility, and features that’ll get you comfortable, and also get you that buck!

Best Tower Blind

Pros

Cons

Hughes Hunting Tower is the best tower blind on the market.

This tower blind comes standard with height adjustments, so you can get the tower right for your hunting needs. Much smaller than the Banks Outdoor Stump reviewed above, this tower blind would be a tight squeeze for two men to bow hunt together. At best, a single man and women or child could hunt together.

What feels tacky about this blind is the way they packaged it. When you take the adhesive strips off the windows, you’ll notice plastic will remain between the window and the bolts. Also, you’ll have to set up your own floor base, and when you do so, make sure it’s sturdy and well connected to the blind, otherwise you’ll hear noise when the wind blows through.

The blind itself is made from a durable plastic, which will last a long time, and it won’t require any painting or other maintenance once you get it set up. The assembly itself you won’t have a problem with at all. It’s a two-person job, but only really requires folding up the sides, drilling in the bolts, and attaching the flooring base to the walls.

This tower blind is best for the crossbow hunter, rather than the traditional compound bow hunter, as there really isn’t a large space to draw the compound bow back. What will most likely happen if you’re planning to use a compound bow is that your elbow will stick out from the corner window as you draw the bow back. For crossbow hunters, you’re good to go.

What Makes This Ground Blind Great

  • Made from plastic material that will withstand the elements and last years
  • Great for 1-person semi-permanent blind, or hunter and child
  • Ability to customize and place hooks to hang your bow
  • Easy to set up and assemble, plus it’s lightweight

Who’s This Ground Blind Best For?

If you want a semi-permanent blind on a tower that’s easy to get into, and you plan to hunt primarily on your own, or at most with one other person, this Hughes Hunter Tower is a great option.

Pros

Cons

This Barronett Blind is the best portable blind on the market.

Built with durable fiberglass poles and high quality, unique fabric, this big blind remain very portable and easy to put up with a simple pop-up design.

The ability to stand and stretch after
patiently waiting for hours is really nice. If you’ve hunted in a tight blind before, you know how tiring it is to stay in one place for hours. Also, you know you want to minimize your time outside, so as to keep your scent down. This blind is so big, you can actually choose a standing position as you shoot. Hunters who enjoy shooting from a tree stand, know how nice this option is, and now it’s available to those who prefer to hunt from a ground blind.

Next, let’s talk about the amazing views you get with this blind. There are a total of 6 trapezoid windows and 2 peek windows. With the huge interior space this blind offers, that means each hunter can easily each have their own window to shoot from. No more, “my turn at the window!”

What Makes This Ground Blind Great

  • 80 inches tall and 90 inches wide hub-to-hub interior space
  • Zipper-less windows for noise-free adjustment, more shooting options, and ability to shoot while standing
  • Lightweight, and easily portable
  • Durable and long-lasting fabric

Who’s This Ground Blind Best For?

Best for the hunter who enjoys taking trips to new locations and wants to bring a large ground blind that can easily fit 5 adult hunters, this is completely your pick!

Best for Turkey Hunting

Pros

Cons

This Auscamotek Pop Up Blind is the best blind for turkey hunting.

This pop up blind comes with three panels. The reason I think you’ll like that is because it provides for easy access to get into and out of, but keeps the shooter well protected from the sight of other animals.

The pop up nature of this blind gives the shooter complete control over how they want the set up to look like. You can wrap the panels around a tree, over bush, or simply put the three in a triangle-like position and be fully covered. Regarding the panel sides, this blind has one shooting whole for each panel, so no matter what direction you find yourself catching a glimpse of the game, you’ll have a clear shot.

What Makes This Ground Blind Great

  • Lightweight and easy to transport
  • The type of camo used for the panels work well in all seasons
  • 3 panel walls for easy access and solid protection from sight
  • Ability to shoot in any direction with each panel wall having a shooting window

Who’s This Ground Blind Best For?

This blind makes a great pop ground blind option for any bow hunter looking for easy set up and transportation.

Best 2-Person Ground Blind

Pros

Cons

This Barronett Radar blind is the best 2-person ground blind on the market.

First, let’s get to the windows: these are made of mesh, and you’re able to shoot straight through them. The reason this is awesome, is because these are zipper-less. For hunters who know, oftentimes, the zippers on many other ground blinds are heavy duty, and what eventually happens is you see your fine looking 10 point you’ve been waiting for, get excited, and hurry to unzip the window. What happens is that the zipper breaks. That won’t happen with this blind because Barronett has designed and engineered a shoot-through material for the window.

The windows themselves allow for the hunter to scan the surrounds and shoot at the angle that’s best for them. So that you can see from every direction, there’s even a rear window to know what’s behind you.

Barronett Blinds are lighweight and come with an over-sized duffel bag with backpack straps that makes it easy to carry to your spot. These means easy transportation and set up no matter where you’re hunting spot is at.

What Makes This Ground Blind Great

  • Mesh camouflage window panels for use with multiple weapons and more coverage control
  • Made with durable, water-resistant, tightly-woven 150D fabric with a black interior coating
  • Zipper-less windows for noise-free adjustment
  • Rear peak window for additional viewing
  • Includes carry bag, ground stakes and tie ropes

Who’s This Ground Blind Best For?

If you know you often hunt with a buddy, spouse, or child and you’re looking for a great ground blind solution for 2 people, this Radar ground blind is the best on the market.

Pros

Cons

This Rhino blind is the best 3-person ground blind on the market.

Using larger limbs, leaves, bark, branches and other digitally enhanced natural elements, the mossy oak camo fuses you with the terrain. This is great for hunters who prefer wooded areas.

This blind has a 5 hub design, brush loops, shoot through mesh windows, zipper less entry, ideal for both bow hunting.

Using 150 denier polyester for the material of the blind, this will keep you protect not only from the sight of the animals, but also harsh weather conditions. The 270-degree window system has silent-slide tracks, which allow you to adjust your windows and shoot right through the mesh while remaining totally silent.

Getting in and out of the blind is as easy as can be. This blind has over-sized, zipper-less door so you can silently enter and exit the blind. What’s included with this blind are tie-down stakes with ropes, as well as a backpack style carrying bag. This makes the process slick as can be. Once you handle the Rhino blind a couple times, you’ll be able to set up and take down in about 1 minute.

Best 4-Person Ground Blind

Pros

Cons

This Pentagon by Barronett blind is the best 4-person ground blind on the market.

If you’re looking for space, look no further! This Barronett Pentagon ground blind will supply that. It is 6 feet tall, so even the big guys won’t have a problem.

The windows are shoot-through mesh, which keeps you from getting sighted by the game. This is very easy to  get into and out of. Heavy-duty zippers help the hunter to open and close the blind. The advantage of this is that the zippers are actually made to last. The disadvantage is that opening and closing the blind is noisy. More on noise, in order to seal and open the windows, you have to pull the plastic layer that shields the wind. However, this shield attaches to the inside of the window blinds by velcro, which is very loud when pulling off.

What Makes This Ground Blind Great

  • Durable frame with stronger poles and hubs creates 96 inches of elbowroom
  • Huge space to fit a few buddies or a small family
  • Easy to set up once you’re used to how it works

Who’s This Ground Blind Best For?

This is absolutely the best option for the hunter who enjoys the hunt with friends and family. This easy easy to set up and has wide open windows for shooting abilities from any angle.
