Last February, my buddies and I went hunting in Colorado for mule deer. The air was crisp, the views were gorgeous, and the one thing item I brought that I continuously felt thankful for was my crossbow backpack. I spent about $75 more than I planned, yet the way my pack helped me keep my hands free and has stayed working well to this day, I consider it an investment.
Here’s the crossbow backpack I used and recommend.
Welcome to the best crossbow backpack review, where I researched the packs for my own trip and then made a write up about it, which is this page here. Lastly, the items on this page are all backpacks for crossbow hunters, but if you’re looking for cases for your crossbow, check out our Best Crossbow Case Review page!

Best Crossbow Backpack Buying Guide
What is a crossbow backpack?
A crossbow backpack is a sack specifically designed to carry a crossbow, along with other crossbow and hunting accessories on your back.
What are the benefits of a crossbow backpack?
As stated from my experience in the first paragraph, having a backpack to carry your crossbow on your next hunting trip will give you plenty of advantages
Some of the benefits include the following:
- Frees up both hands while walking to your hunting place
- Allows you to place not only your crossbow in the pack, but also other hunting accessories too
- Allows you to bring more on your trip and carry items like a ground blind heater
How to choose the right backpack for crossbow hunting ?
There is not shortage of backpacks on the market that are made for crossbow hunters. Since I made this purchase before I went on my hunting trip to Colorado, I created this page to put all the information I learned into one page. Now, now matter your needs, if you’re a crossbow hunter, you can find the best crossbow backpack right from this list.
Make sure to check out the following features on a hunting cart before making your purchase:
- Weight: Some packs are meant for carrying heavy loads, where as other packs are meant to help carrying the bare minimum. For this reason, different models have different bag weights. Check out the weight of the bag to make sure you’ll be able to carry the bag on your back for the estimated time you’ll need to carry it.
- Weight capacity: Similarly to above, each backpack is built to carry a different amount. If you’re a hunter who likes to take a lot of gear, make sure the pack you pick can handle it.
- Style: Some of the bags are camo in color, some have padded straps, some have lots of additional pockets, and some are more plain in color and simple in design. Make sure you get the back that feels right to you.
- Dimensions: Double check the size of your crossbow and make sure it will fit into the bag you choose. The Ravin Crossbow‘s for example, are so compact and lightweight, that they’ll fit into nearly any bag. Some of the wider Excalibur Crossbow‘s, however, will need a bag with a wider opening.

Best Beginner Pack
Pros
- Can be used for crossbows and guns
- Has wing pockets
- Comes with extension straps
- Includes organizational pocket inside
Cons
- Has cheap plastic buckles and cheap zippers
I’m going to be clear here, I do not recommend this hunter’s pack. If you’ve ever bought a cheap backpack, or any other product for that matter, you’ll know that it sucks when something breaks- particularly if it’s an outdoor product, and the item breaks when you’re outdoors.
I do think this is a good backpack for the hobbyist hunter, who doesn’t go far into the woods or on big hunting trips. If you’re looking for a decent backpack that will carry your crossbow and you will only use it a couple times a year, the price of this back is great, but I just wouldn’t recommend it for anyone who doesn’t want to get stuck in the woods or on a camping trip with a broken zipper.
What I do really like about his backpack is that it has inside organizational pockets inside the bag. This makes packing easy. This back also has wing pockets that will allow you a place to put small items, like your phone, compass, pocket knife, etc… Wing pockets also act as a reinforcement for back support, which I like; however, as you can see from the other crossbow backpacks on this list, nearly all of them have wing pockets, so it’s not a particularly unique feature.
- Unique design to carry crossbow, gun or compound bow
- Wing pockets protect and secure weapon or gear when hauling
- Drop down pocket to carry gun or bow
- Quiver holder located on each side of pack
- Organizational pocket inside of main compartment
- Padded waist belt has two pockets and accommodates clip-style holsters
Who’s This backpack Best For?
This backpack is not for the avid hunter. To be honest though, it’s a decent beginner’s pack. This is a good crossbow backpack for the hobbyist crossbow hunter, who’s looking for a sack to pack things up and go for the occasional hunt that’s too far from home or your vehicle.
